"My history was shaped in a community rooted in the remnants of the Austro-Hungarian empire
as they came together on the East Side of New York City. The section of the city was called Yorkville.
I have never discovered the derivation of the name but by reputation Yorkville was considered German
in ethnic background. The major street in Yorkville was 86th. It was a collection of family restaurants,
rathkellers and German shops which kept alive some of the "old" country. My uncle Bill Wagner was a
bartender in one of the 86th Street family restaurants."
